Description

Series of five woodcuts with color pochoir on laid Van Gelder Zonen, housed in a gray chine paper portfolio, 1915.

Reference: BN-IFF 156.

Stated edition of 300, but very scarce today. We have only encountered single sheets on occasion, and complete sets for sale a couple of times in the past 20 years. We also only know of a handful of copies held by public collections. We are unsure whether the complete edition was actually printed. Each sheet numbered “90” in pencil and stamped with green “Hermann-Paul” stamp (not in Lugt).

Published by Dorbon Ainé, Paris. The set comprises 5 compositions, as well as this portfolio, or at times just a title sheet. There is a second composition of the Spring, which is included in this set, but may not have been part of all sets.

Images: circa 12 x 14 inches.

Small area of paper damage in the portfolio's right sheet edge, as well as some foxing in the portfolio. The five sheets inside in pristine condition.
