Etching, possibly with touches of drypoint, printed on laid paper (partial watermark suggesting Arches), ca. 1872.
Reference: Bourcard & Goodfriend 68 ii/iii. Second state of three, the third being the cancelled state. Uncommon.
The subject is virtually a Buhot trademark: the rain, the old lady with the umbrella and lantern, the dogs, the narrow street (in Valognes, his hometown).
Fine, atmospheric impression with good margins.
Signed in the plate.
With the J and G (Jim Goodfriend) initials, forming a butterfly in pencil, on the verso.
