Printed on laid Arches paper. Ref: Clément-Janin 165; BN-IFF 3. Impression of the second state of three, according to Clément-Janin . Before the shop was drawn in the background. Interestingly this print is annotated indicating it as a 3rd state, in what looks very likely to be Desboutin's hand (blue pencil). It can therefore be assumed that there are four states, and not three. An elusive second state must exist, even though we have not found any trace of it. Singed in pencil, annotated "3e état" in blue pencil, and annotated "Portrait de Leroy imprimeur - dix pointes sèches de l'auteur" in pencil, in another hand. Printed to the sheet edge on the right, and beyond the edge at the bottom. Short tear in right sheet edge. Size indicated is of the sheet, which is reproduced in its entirety.
