Description

Wood engraving on thin Japan wove paper, no date.

No stated edition. Seemingly scarce.

All is well with the world. After a long day toiling in the fields, this farmer has taken off his shoes, set his cold feet by the stove, and grabbed his pipe, just in time to fall asleep feeling cozy. His trusted dog is also asleep, laying guard at the foot of his master. We see the woman of the house rolling out dough in the kitchen through the open door on the right. She’s hung clothes to dry already, behind the stove. The snowy winter outside is quietly going from dusk to night, with a few rays of light visible at the horizon and casting glares in both the living room and the kitchen.

Signed and titled in pencil.
