Two boys approach what looks like a manhole prudently. Their pose seems to suggest they expect something is about to blow out of this conduit. Two dogs nearby are similarly perplexed by what this all means. Given this lithograph was created in 1939, one can only assume Charles Ramus remembered what happened the last time nations amassed weaponry; having lived through the end of World War I.
