This subject is one of the artist's most famous.  Not only are this profiles arresting, they are also ambiguous in modern way.  While the outrageous hats suggest we are looking at women, everything about these Parisian profiles seems masculine.  Are they cross-dressers, sex-workers, actors, all of the above?  Your guess is as good as mine.
