Description

Color aquatint on Somerset wove paper.

Edition of 100.

Signed, titled, and numbered in pencil.

Printed from at least three, and possibly more copper plates, color etchings in this manner are not common in the second half of the 20th century, or today. While a handful of print shops and isolated printmakers do create color intaglio from multiple plates today, it is unusual, especially in this size. This must have been an ambitious project for the artists, and the printing arduous. It also seems the color may have varied from one impression to the other. We were not able to locate other impressions of this print, which suggests the edition may not have been printed in full. It is an amazing color aquatint, which rivals images created by French printmakers during the Belle Epoque, which was the heyday of this technique.
