Trafalgar Tavern, Greenwich (second state)

Date
1878
Description

Etching and drypoint printed on laid paper.
Reference: Wentworth 36 II/II.
Impression of the second state of two, after the sky was filled with storm clouds.  There are also two extremely scarce state proofs, aside from the two published states.  An edition of circa 100 in both states is likely.
Signed in pencil and bearing the artist’s red monogram stamp, in the plate.  This plate is generally unsigned.
Bearing the red “JCC” collector stamp (not in Lugt).
An unreadable circular collector’s mark on the verso, smudged at printing.

A very fine impression, with wide margins, in excellent condition overall; aside from a short tear in the bottom margin, as well as left bottom corner damage, both conditions repaired.
