Oude Kraai (original Dutch title)
Color lithograph on chine-collé.
Reference: De Groot 155.1.
An artist proof, aside from the edition as part of the 1908 calendar. Van Hoytema became known for these calendar pages, which are generally very attractive, and rather common. According to De Groot from 1905 to 1909, only a handful of such artists’ proofs were printed, and very likely only of a few subjects. As of 1910 such proofs were printed more commonly and in greater numbers.
On a large sheet of paper with a couple of tears in the left sheet edge and a rounded lower right sheet corner, both very far away from the image and unobtrusive.
