Jules JACQUEMART

Jules Jacquemart (1837-1880) is one of the most important figures in the renewed interest in etching in 19th century in France, often designated as “etching revival”.  He was also an avid collector of Japanese objects and prints.  Both of these elements dominate his oeuvre.  While he also painted watercolors, he is today remembered for the precision of his etchings, and the life he brought to the most inert objects and subjects.  His intelligent use of line, space, paper all contribute to making his prints, however mundane the image, alive and attractive.
