Viktor Wolfgang PIRKHOFF

Viktor Wolfgang Pirkhoff (1875-1962) was born and raised in Prague, where he also received art education, which he then furthered in Paris.  Life took him many other places, such as Zurich, Vienna, and eventually Brno, for work, due to war, and because of his Jewish roots.  Pirkhoff was mostly a painter, it seems; but he also became an excellent carver of color woodcuts.  Flowers and animals, in particular exotic birds, spoke to his imagination.  His crisp lines and vivid colors helped him build attractive compositions.  The exact dates of these works, and where or how they saw the light of day is still unclear today.
