Description

Color woodcut or woodblock print on Japan laid paper, no date.

There seems to be no stated edition for this print. Likely from a small group of color variants rather than from a consistent edition. Scarce, especially in such a fine condition with fresh colors. Russell’s decorative prints were often framed in the 1920s or 1930s with the consequence that their colors have dramatically faded over time, and that the paper is very toned. Our impression has kept its fresh deep-blue background, and tender light blue and orange flower highlights. The wood plank’s veins are clearly visible in the darker blue hues and some of the block’s embossing still shows on the verso of the sheet. Extremely scarce in such fine condition.
Signed and titled in pencil.
